Up for sale ONE (1) 1 year old plant of Beach plum (Prunus maritima) 8-14 inches tall. Not a bundle, just one plant.
Well rooted plant.
Beach plum (Prunus maritima) is a fruiting shrub native to coastal dunes of the Northeastern United States. Since colonial times, people have collected wild fruit to make preserves and jelly. Today, native stands still support a cottage beach plum product industry in the Northeast.
Grow small, tasty plums prized for jams and jellies. An asset to your landscape â fragrant white flowers in spring attract birds, bees, and butterflies. 3/4-inch fruit may vary from purplish-black to red when ripe. Natural bush-form can be pruned into a tree form if desired â simply remove low limbs and suckers to encourage singular trunk development. Keep pruned at a manageable size for easy harvest. Tolerant of poor soils. Beach plums, a North American native species, were first described circa late 1700s.
Cold-hardy. Freestone. Ripens in late August. Seedling.
Plant two or more for proper pollination and larger crops. (Prunus maritima) The USDA hardiness zones offer a guide to varieties that will grow well in certain climates.
Plant is rated as zone 4-8. Each zone corresponds to the minimum winter temperatures experienced in a given area. Make sure that your hardiness zone lies within the zone compatibility range of this variety before ordering. When your tree matures, it will be approximately 6 - 10' tall x 6 - 10' wide. We recommend spacing these trees 6 - 10' apart to ensure room for growth.
Cross-pollination by a different variety is key to its growing and bearing success. Our experts recommend planting one of the following within 50' for optimum pollination.
This variety requires another one for adequate pollination.
