INDEX TO ADVERTISERS -- An alphabetical index with page numbers referring to advertisers listed in the "BUYER'S GUIDE" section of the directory. See below.
GREAT BEND -- This section includes a statistical review of Great Bend including topics such as: Population, Area, Climate, Parks, Assessed Valuation, Recreation, Trade Area, Newspapers, Radio Stations, Television Stations, Motels, Railroads, Bus Lines, Highways, Air Lines, Airports, Amusements, Hospitals, Education—including the number and types of schools, number of pupils, and number of teachers in public schools. Fire Department, and Police Department), equipment summary.
A brief summary of their current standing as of the printing of this edition as well as a brief history of Great Bend. The information in this section was producedby the Great Bend Kansas Chamber of Commerce.
BUYERS' GUIDE and CLASSIFIED BUSINESS DIRECTORY -- (The yellow page section). In the first part of the yellow pages is the Buyer's Guide which "Contains The Advertisements Of The More Progressive Businesses Followed By A Complete Classified Business Directory". This yellow section focuses on businesses of Great Bend, but other BARTON COUNTY businesses can be found listed here too.
ALPHABETICAL DIRECTORY -- "Secured By An Actual Door to Door Canvass" this section is the white paged section, and contains the alphabetical listing of Names, Addresses and Telephone Numbers "Of All Business Firms And Individuals 18 Years and Older Residing or Employed Within Our Canvass Areas."
The Directory includes the following information on the listed individuals: Husband's Name, Wife's Name, Individual Name, Address, Occupation, Employer, Householder, Homeowner, Resident or Roomer, Retiree, Student, Member of Armed Services. It also lists the following information on Business Firms: Firm Name and Address, Names and Titles of Officers, Owners, Partners or Managers, Products or Services.
STREET DIRECTORY OF HOUSEHOLDERS AND BUSINESSES -- A door to door canvass was used to gather the information for this section. It includes: Street Name and Address, Occupants, Home Owners, Telephone Numbers, New Householder this Edition, Apartment Residents, Office Building Occupants, Types of Business or Profession, Street Descriptions, Zip Codes, Street Intersections.
These pages follow the white pages and are a slightly off white - with a hint of green. Addresses where they were unable to secure the occupant information are also noted.
NUMERICAL TELEPHONE DIRECTORY is a light blue section and is akin to a reverse look-up by phone number. It has the numbers listed first and then lists who that number belongs to.
The inside rear flyleaf contains calendars for 1990, 1991, and 1992.
This book measures approximately:
9 inches from Top to Bottom (9")
6 and 3/4 inches from Side to Side (6 3/4")
and is about an 1 and 15/16 inches Thick (1 15/16"). (Nearly 2 inches thick.
This is a handsome hardcover with numerous pages. The pages are NOT numbered consecutively all the way through, instead each section starts a new numbered section.
Pages nice and clean as well as covers.
Excellent Condition.
A wonderful reference source for historical research into genealogy ancestry and business information for the area.
