Like many early 20th-century Illinois Representatives, John Buckbee was born on a farm. He took his agricultural interests abroad, studying horticulture throughout Europe, before entering politics. This celluloid button—using a common format of the period, a portrait of the candidate with a slogan around the button’s circumference—was for one of his five campaigns for Congress.
