You are buying a pre-viewed, ORIGINAL wrestling DVD, WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) Backlash 2005.
On May 1, 2005, the Raw-branded pay-per-view event came to Manchester, New Hampshire's Verizon Wireless Arena, filling it to a capacity 14,000.
WWE's brand extension has split the talent roster into two separate brands, Raw and SmackDown, to coordinate with the two main television programmes of WWE, each with their own titles to defend and separate pay-per-view events. Backlash is a Raw brand exclusive event.
Here's the card:
- In non-wrestling action, Jerry "The King" Lawler introduces the RAW Divas to show some of their favourite photos from the recent issue of WWE Divas Magazine. Ring announcer Lillian Garcia makes her WWE Divas Magazine début with the 2005 issue.
- Chris "The Masterpiece" Masters ups the bounty on his traditional $1000 Masterlock Challenge (if anyone can break his "Masterlock" full nelson, he will give them $1000) to $3000, offering anyone in the audience the opportunity to win the $3000 prize (unintentionally humourously stating that someone can put their kids through college with the prize money). Melissa Coates comes from the audience to accept his challenge. Will she be the one to win Masters' prize money?
- The main card kicks off with WWE Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin defends his title against Chris Jericho! Jericho is already a seven-time former WWE Intercontinental Champion, and is looking to begin his eight reign tonight against the person who ended Jericho's seventh reign the previous year!
- Defending the World Tag Team Championship is gruelling enough on its own, but when you add in four more teams in a gauntlet-style match, and then have the last surviving team awarded the championship, you have Tag Team Turmoil! If Champions Tajiri and William Regal want to survive this night, they need to get past the teams of The Heart Throbs (Antonio Thomas and Romeo Roselli), La Résistance (Sylvain Grenier and Robért Conway), Simon Dean & Maven and Rosey & The Hurricane! Of the teams, only La Résistance has tasted championship gold previously.
- When Edge won first ever Money in the Bank ladder match the prior month at WrestleMania 21 (a match which included Benoit), he earned the right to cash it in for a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship within one year. When Edge declined to force Batista into a title defence, electing to wait until the right moment, Eric Bischoff instead scheduled Edge to a match against Chris Benoit. Benoit won the match (but not the contract), and Edge attacked Benoit after the match with a steel chair, leading up to a second match, which ended in a no-contest. Now the two men face each other in Last Man Standing match! Anything goes; the only way to win is have your opponent unable to respond to a ten count by the referee!
- When Lita's pregnancy (by Kane) ended in September, Lita would return to competition the following month. Endless taunting by Trish about her pregnancy weight gain led to a bout at Survivor Series for Trish's WWE Women's Championship. Lita's desire to punish and humiliate Trish as opposed to just beating her led to Lita's disqualification loss, and the two would continue to battle over the belt until Lita finally captured the title again in December, although just barely escaping serious injury herself in the process. In January, Trish would reclaim the title in her rematch, where Lita tore her ACL in the match, furthering the animosity between the two. Unable to compete herself, Lita instead turned to her husband, Kane for help to injure Trish. A frightened Stratus enlisted the aid of Viscera to help turn back Kane's threat, with the promise of a date if he succeeds. The prospect of a date with the lovely Trish motivating him, Viscera (with Trish) will take on Kane (with Lita)!
- The night after WrestleMania, Shawn Michaels came to the ring to thank the crowd for their support in his losing WrestleMania effort when he was interrupted by Muhammad Hassan and Daivari, who had their own comments about Michaels' loss. Hassan's comments would lead Michaels to slap Hassan, and Hassan and Daivari would retaliate by beating down Michaels. The following week, Michaels approached Eric Bischoff to demand a handicap match against the Arab American duo, but Bischoff refused, insisting Michaels to get himself a tag team partner. Michaels stated how he loved his country, and needed a partner who loved this country as much as he did, until finally coming to the realisation that only one person could fit the bill as a partner - The Immortal Hulk Hogan! However, Hogan had retired. That wouldn't stop Michaels, though, and he encouraged Hogan to come back for "one more match" until Hogan finally came back on the April 18 episode of Raw, to save Michaels from an attack led by Hassan and accept his offer! Hulkamania will run wild one more time on the team of Muhammad Hassan and Daivari, and Hulkamania will be joined by the show-stopper, the Heartbreak Kid, Shawn Michaels!
- In the main event, World Heavyweight Champion Batista in a much anticipated rematch from Wrestlemania 21 against Triple H, the former Champion! Evolution's Ric Flair accompanies Triple H to ringside for the match! Ever since Evolution conspired to keep Bataista away from Triple H's World Heavyweight Championship, setting him up to be run over by a limousine and then pretending it was JBL's, when Batista overheard the plot, he signed to meet Triple H at WrestleMania 21, leaving Evolution and never looked back, taking Triple H's coveted World Heavyweight Championship with him at WrestleMania 21. Now, "The Game" is hungry to get back what he sees as his - the World Heavyweight Championship!
In addition to the matches, the DVD includes the following extras:
- Interviews from Triple H & Batista; Hulk Hogan & Shawn Michaels and Muhammad Hassan & Daivari on their matches!
- Footage from Trish & Viscera's Date from the April 25 WWE Raw!
- Triple H on The History Of the Pedigree!
- Plus a match from Sunday Night Heat, Tyson Tomko vs. Val Venis, with an interview from Christian & Tyson Tomko! Also an interview of Muhammad Hassan & Daivari!
Also, in DVD exclusive footage, Hulk Hogan & Shawn Michaels in a post-match interview and a segment with Lita & Edge backstage!
