LA Confidential 1997
LA Confidential is based on top novel noir writer James Elroy, a best selling author whose work also include The Black Dahlia and Hollywood Noctures. I have been a longtime fan of Elroy. I think few other writers capture 1950s Los Angeles, the pre-freeway, sunny glamour of Hollywood and LA. The film starts when Mobster Mickey Cohen gets tossed in jail on tax evasion charges and everyone is taking a dive at his turf, including the dirty cops. A great film still today, strong ensemble cast and smart script.
