This video, a first of its kind, spotlights not a wrestler, or group of wrestlers, but a style of match that was born in Japan, popularized in the underground cult phenomenom wrestling promotion, ECW and then taken to the WWF, where it became even more popular.
Hosted by former ECW Heavyweight (and former FTW) Champion, Taz(z), this video features interviews with the superstars of the WWF, asking their opinions on hardcore, and what they think it means, and then proceeds to the beginning of the now-extinct WWF Hardcore divsion.
Prior to being a WWF Champion, Mick Foley's first title was the hardcore title, given to him by Vince McMahon. The first offical hardcore match sees Mankind going against Ken Shamrock.
- In a revolutionary first, a women's hardcore match has Ivory bringing the fight to longtime rival, Tori! An excellent hardcore match shown on Monday Night RAW.
- From the final WWF In Your House PPV, St. Valentine's Day Massacre 1999, Hardcore (Bob) Holly vs. Al Snow for the then-vacant title.
- At WrestleMania 2000, the hardcore title is again up for grabs in another first of its kind--a hardcore battle royal. Viscera, Bradshaw, Faarooq, Mosh, Thrasher, Taka, Funaki, The Mean Street Posse, Perry Saturn, Matt & Jeff Hardy, Taz(z) & Hardcore & Crash Holly all compete for the title!
- At the Royal Rumble 2000, Cactus Jack returns to challenge WWF Champion Triple H in a street fight! While not a match for the hardcore strap, it is a match in the hardcore style.
- Al Snow also takes Road Dogg for a lesson in hardcore!
- Vince isn't the only McMahon to step into the ring to take care of business. At SummerSlam 2000, Shane McMahon takes on "The Lethal Weapon" Steve Blackman for the Hardcore Championship. Look for some insane bumps by Shane, who, like his father, isn't even a trained wrestler!
