This is TCM and Leslie Greif's exceptional 2007 Emmy-nominated look at the controversial actor's work and life, rare and old footage and photos.
Brando is a two-DVD package, parts I and II, which aired once on Turner Classic Movies, a rare find. The documentary is compelling and comprehensive, covering the actor's professional and private life, including Brando's troubled childhood, his mark on the craft of acting, turbulent relationships and intense political and social activism; Brando's rise and fall in the cinema; his love affair with his Haitian atoll; the tragic shooting of Dag Drollet by his son, Christian.
This is the most penetrating biography of the man. Brando is told through interviews with some three dozen fellow actors, political activists, directors and life-long friends, highlighted by edgy saxophone music. It contains wonderful scenes and outtakes, several interviews Brando did such as an early one with Edward R. Murrow, and home movies of youthful acting hopefuls Brando, Montgomery Clift and Kevin McCarthy. It was released in 2007. Commercial-free, uncut.
