The figure of Sinclair Lewis looms as a giant among the novelists of our time.  This complex, driven writer -- who earned and then refused to accept the Pulitzer Prize, who was the first American to be awarded the Nobel Prize in literature -- made hypocrisy his target and controversy his hallmark.  He not only riveted the attention of the world's readers; he markedly shook and influenced the literary and social scenes.

Several seasons ago an intimate memoir, With Love from Gracie, by his first wife, Grace Hegger Lewis, was published; the completion of Mark Schorer's comprehensive and masterful biography is welcomed news.  Elmer Gentry has recently been translated into a powerful, acclaimed motion picture.  It is appropriate that an omnibus collection of Lewis's first three major novels, Main Street, Babbitt, and Arrowsmith, acknowledged as living classics, be brought out in a popular new addition.

Condition:  Used.  Hardcover.  Dust cover is discolored.  Dust cover spine is darkened from age.  There's tape on the dust cover spine.  Previous owner's name is blacked out on the front endpaper with the date written underneath.  There's an envelope pasted to the front endpaper as a way to keep tracking of her books.  The binding is splitting between the covers and endpapers, possibly elsewhere in the book, but pages are in tact.
