Book Club Edition

M. M. Kaye -- whose superb The Far Pavillions has been compared to the greatest historical novels of all time -- has created another splendid tale of love and death in an exotic locale.  The scene is teeming Zanzibar just before the American Civil War, when the "Isle of Cloves" was a center of African slave trade.

Hero Athena Hollis, filled with confident self-righteousness and bent on good deeds, comes straight from Boston to reform the dark continent.  But it is she who is reformed -- by her encounter with plague, revolution, palace intrigue and, most of all, the renegade slaver Rory Frost.  Frost is cynical and wicked, shrewd and good-humored -- the most fascinating and attractive man Mollie Kaye has ever given us.

The tumultuous story of Hero's conversion is a vivid, full-blooded drama of adventure, suspense and romance.  Like her previous novel, Shadow of the Moon, Trade Wind was originally published many years ago in an abbreviated form.  For this new issue, all the richness and detail of the original manuscript has been restored and rewritten by the master storyteller M. M. Kaye.

Condition:  Used.  Hardcover.  Dust cover is lightly discolored and shows shelf wear, scuffing and a bit of edge wear.  Back and spine of the dust cover is ripped, torn and bent. Pages may be tanning from age.  Previous owner's "Library Of" stamp is on the front endpaper.  Binding is in the beginning stages of splitting, but pages are still in tact.
