CALCULATING YOUR FAT INTAKE
~ ~ Here’s how to calculate your daily fat intake and determine if you’re getting too much: ~ ~
Read food labels or use a calorie and fat counter to determine your average daily calorie intake and fat intake in grams. Track your calorie and fat consumption for 7 days, and divide the total number of calories and fat grams by 7 to determine your average daily intake.
Let’s say you have determined that you consume an average of 2,300 calories and 60 grams of fat daily. Now multiply those 60 grams of fat times 9 (because each gram of fat contains 9 calories): 60 grams fat X 9 calorcies = 540 fat calories
Divide the 540 fat calories by the average number of calories you consume daily (2,300) to find what percentage of calories consumed come from fat = 23%
REMEMBER: No more than 30 percent of calories consumed should originate from fat and 10 percent of those from saturated fat. In this example, 23 percent of average daily calories came from fat, and therefore considered an acceptable level of fat intake for the average person.
